As we mark the 25th anniversary of South Africa’s participation in the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign, it’s crucial to reflect on our collective role in this global movement. From 25 November to 10 December, the world unites to combat gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), advocating for a society where everyone, especially women and children, live free from abuse and inequality.

? Theme: “Accelerating actions to end gender-based violence & femicide: leaving no one behind”

? Sub-Theme: “Safe access for women to clean water: a basic human right

”This year’s theme calls for an all-society approach to end GBVF, highlighting the critical need for safe water and sanitation access for women as a fundamental human right.

How Everyone Can Contribute:

Challenge Harmful Norms: Address and alter cultures and practices that perpetuate gender inequalities and abuse.

Reject and Report Abuse: Do not ignore abuse. Report abusers and refuse to shelter them. Commit to the Pledge Against Gender-Based Violence.

Support and Empathy: Offer help, information, and understanding to those affected by GBV.

Personal Responsibility: Seek assistance for harmful behaviors and educate the next generation about gender equality.

Protect Children Online: Guard against exposure to online violence and inappropriate content.

Policy Development: Advocate for and implement policies that address GBV in various environments.

Community Involvement: Organize and participate in dialogues and initiatives to promote gender equality.
