International Pride Month

The LGBTIAQ+ community and allies observe international Pride Month to celebrate identities and accomplishments and reflect on the struggle for equality. June marks the police raid that promoted the Stonewall riots in 1969. The Stonewall riots, also known as the Stonewall uprising, included a series of demonstrations held by members of the LGBTIAQ+ community on 28 June 1969 in New York. It was a response to the police raid on queer spaces such as bars that began in the early hours of the morning. The queer community fought back when the police became violent. These demonstrations are widely viewed as a turning point that changed the liberation movement in the 20the century and LGBTIAQ+ rights in the United States.
