SALO Virtual Public Dialogue: Democracy, human rights and political participation: a regional perspective from the LGBTQIA+ community. – 22 September 2022

SALO, in partnership with the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, hosted a dialogue titled: Democracy, human rights and political participation: a regional perspective from the LGBTQIA+ community. This dialogue brought together civil society and activists from the SADC region, in particular, the LGBTIAQ+ community to share their experiences.

In South Africa, while the constitution and laws of the country protect gender and sexual minorities, we are seeing a rampant increase in hate crimes. In Mozambique and Zimbabwe, we are aware of the many legislative barriers to the achievement of full rights for LGBTIAQ+ people.

The struggles that the LGBTIAQ+ face in different countries within the region have many differences as well as similarities.
