South Africa’s Migration Policy Review: The Human Security Impacts – 20 July 2023
In the dialogue, we unpacked the changes in South Africa’s migration policy and legislation, including the non-extension of the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP). We deliberated upon the Citizenship Act, Immigration Act, and Refugees Act and their pending amendments, as resolved in the ANC’s 55th National Conference in December 2022, and their impact on the migrant community in South Africa, and the potential human security spillovers as a result of the suggested immigration reforms.
In doing this, the dialogue intended to inform stakeholders of the nuances in the immigration debate that will be a talking point in South Africa’s General Elections in 2024.
