On the 13th of June 2024, the Southern African Liaison Office (SALO) held a virtual public dialogue:
 Lessons learned by the region and South Africa from South Africa’s 2024 elections and its electoral and political system.

This dialogue took a regional approach to unpacking the recent South African elections. Analysts and experts explored the challenges, lessons, and implications of the South African electoral and political system and looked comparatively at other countries in the region.

 The dialogue will explored the following themes:

  • Reflections on the May 29th 2024 elections including the electoral process and results
  • The role of the IEC in maintaining transparency and accountability in the electoral process
  • The regional perspective on the seminal year covering various elections and legislative implications
  • The challenges associated with hosting elections in SADC and recommendations of electoral reform
