International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims – March 24
Each year on this day, we honour the memory of victims of gross human rights violations and those who have dedicated—and even sacrificed—their lives in the fight for justice and dignity.
This observance pays special tribute to Monsignor Óscar Arnulfo Romero, who was assassinated on March 24, 1980, for his courageous efforts to denounce human rights violations and defend the dignity of the most vulnerable in El Salvador.
The Day’s Purpose:
– To honour the memory of victims and promote the right to truth and justice.
– To pay tribute to defenders of human rights who have lost their lives in the struggle.
– To recognise the values and legacy of Archbishop Óscar Romero, who stood for the protection of lives, human dignity, and opposition to violence.
Let us continue his mission by advocating for justice, transparency, and the protection of human rights worldwide.
