International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

On February 6th, the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is observed. This day provides an opportunity to highlight progress and raise awareness to end this harmful practice and to amplify survivor voices and accelerate efforts to eliminate Female Genital Mutilation by 2030.

From community leaders to health workers and family members, everyone has a role to play. This year, with the theme Step up the Pace, there is a focus on strengthening alliances and building movements to end FGM.

For over a decade, survivor-led movements, supported by the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme, have been driving change—transforming laws, shifting social norms, and empowering women and girls. According to the United Nations, in the last two years, close to 12,000 grassroots organisations and 112,000 community and frontline workers have worked to drive change.

Every survivor’s voice is a call to action, and every step forward strengthens the movement for equality and dignity.

Join the movement and #StepUpthePace and take a stand to #EndFGM.
