International Women’s day is a day in which we celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world. It is also a day to promote the achievement of gender equality. IWD was honoured for the first time in 1911. This year’s theme is #ChooseToChallenge. People are encouraged to challenge and call out bias, inequality, and stereotypes and to lead the way towards an inclusive world. This year, IWD falls against the backdrop of the global COVID-19 pandemic and the importance of women in leadership to obtain an equal world in these challenging times. This year we celebrate the women and girls who have made tremendous efforts in the fight against COVID-19 and advocate for the inclusion of more women in positions of policy and decision-making.
