SALO Cultural Dialogue: Engaging members of a culturally divided community in positive cultural dialogue through the medium of the arts – 19 November 2013
An impoverished, and diverse community both culturally and ethnically, that remains largely divided after the xenophobic violence in 2009 which led to the displacement of 3000 Zimbabweans worked together today in conceptualizing and creating a shared cultural product in the form of large paintings.
Communication is often facilitated by using cultural forms of expression rather than didactic, factual formats of discussion. This activity brought together 20 People of mixed nationalities- South African, Zimbabwean, Sotho (from Lesotho)- living in the rural and impoverished township community of De Doorns in the Western Cape.
